Reading Dogs

A programme that uses trained individuals and their companion dogs to help children improve their literacy, communication and confidence skills. Reading to a dog can help a child to increase their feelings of wellbeing through reading or just by being around a trained dog. It uses a non-judgemental approach where the majority of the communication and help is provided through the dog. In addition it provides training for schoolchildren on how to respect, nurture and care for companion animals and be less fearful and safe around both unknown and companion dogs.

The dogs are always pleased to see the child, will never judge and are great listeners.
